With more than 1,800 free courses, MIT has the best OpenCourseWare program. Courses cover nearly every topic imaginable and are translated into several different languages. Audio and video courses are also available.

#2 University of California, Berkeley

UC Berkeley webcasts hundreds of courses and lectures every semester. Current and archived courses can be experienced through on-demand replay. Course topics include everything from archeology to psychology.

#3 Carnegie Mellon University

Carnegie Mellon University makes a wide range of free online courses available through their Open Learning Initiative. The high quality courses are comparable to those offered on campus and cover topics like engineering, chemistry, biology, physics, statistics, economics and the French language.

Utah State University offers more than 50 comprehensive online courses through their OpenCourseWare program. Available departments include, but are not limited to: agriculture, anthropology, engineering, education, history, languages, physics and theatre arts.

The John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health offers free online access to some of the school's most popular courses. All of the courses relate to public health. Dixie State OpenCourseWare has an interesting collection of free courses that can't be found through most OpenCourseWare programs. Western Governors University, an online non-profit university, offers free access to more than a dozen liberal arts courses. A wide range of subjects can be studied, including economics, geography, language and communications, natural science, critical writing and literature. TU Delft in the Netherlands provides high quality educational materials that have been organized into courses through their OpenCourseWare program. Most courses focus on technology associated with economic and environmental sustainability and safety.
