Career and Licensing Requirements for Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) in North Carolina

In North Carolina, certified nursing assistants are called nurse aides and divided into 2 levels of professional competence: Nurse Aide I and II. All nursing aides who work in nursing homes are required to qualify for the state's nurse aide registry list. To qualify, you must complete an approved nursing assistant training program and pass the state Nurse Aide I competency exam. You can choose between taking a written or oral test consisting of multiple-choice questions and a skills assessment. To become a Nurse Aide II, you must be currently registered as Nurse Aide I and take an additional course.
