What Type of Health Services Administration Degree Can I Earn Online?
You can earn an associate's, bachelor's or master's degree in health services administration online. Some bachelor's degree programs in health services administration are available as degree-completion programs. This means that if you have an associate's degree, you'll only need to complete two years of study rather than the usual four years it takes to earn a bachelor's degree. The associate's degree will count as the first two years of the bachelor's degree program. At the master's level, you might have the option of enrolling in a dual degree program that focuses on both health services administration and health information management.
What Courses Will I Take?
As a health services administration major, you'll learn how to manage and oversee healthcare facilities and the various services they offer. Course topics common throughout undergraduate and graduate degree programs include accounting, healthcare law and ethics, aging, long-term care and policymaking. You'll take business courses in these programs as well, such as entrepreneurship, management principles, business law and human resource management. You'll probably be required to complete an internship in the bachelor's degree program.
What Materials and Equipment Will I Need?
You'll need a computer with a modem and high-speed Internet service. Some programs may require you to use a laptop to learn computer and software application skills. You might also need a sound card and speakers, in addition to Microsoft Office and the latest Microsoft Windows operating systems. If you have older versions of Windows, such as 95, 98 or ME, you may need to upgrade before enrolling.
Accessing your coursework and materials may mean logging into an online course management system such as Moodle. There, you'll access lectures and other course content, complete quizzes and tests, receive your grades, stay in touch with your professors and stay informed of any course happenings.
What Admissions Requirements Will I Need to Meet for the Degree Program?
The degree program that you choose will set the requirements for entry. For example, the bachelor's program may require you to hold an associate's degree or complete prerequisite courses at a community college local to the school where you're earning your degree. Prerequisite courses typically will not be available online.
