#1 MIT

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology offers hundreds of free technology courses that cover a wide range of topics. Courses are a combination of audio, video and text and include materials like lectures, labs, assignments and exams.

#2 Delft University of Technology

The free technology courses offered though the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands are fantastic for advanced technology students. Courses are mainly text-based, but they do include videos and other multi-media elements. Each course also includes links to additional technology education resources.

#3 UC Berkeley

The University of California--Berkeley provides access to dozens of webcasts that focus on technology. Archived lectures can be viewed with a free version of RealPlayer or downloaded as an mp3 file.

#4 Utah State University

The Instructional Technology Department of Utah State University provides access to more than ten free technology courses through the university's OpenCourseWare program. A wide range of topics are covered, including educational technology, interactive learning technologies and information technology.

#5 Dixie State College of Utah

The Computer and Information Technology Department of the Dixie State College of Utah offers two great technology courses that are free to self-learners around the world. The comprehensive courses explore each topic in full and include lectures, assignments, quizzes and much more.

Rice University's Connexions offers a wide range of technology courses that are free to everyone. All content is divided into modules, which are manageable chunks of information, or collections, which are grouped modules that read like a textbook.

#7 University of Southern Queensland

The University of Southern Queensland in Australia provides access to a number of quality technology courses. Topics include everything from computer technology to technology policy. Courses are mainly text-based, but include other multimedia elements as well.

Western Governors University, a non-profit online university, now offers free information technology courses online. The text-based courses include assessments, labs, assignments and other self-study materials.

The University of Tokyo makes information technology lectures accessible to self-learners around the world. The lectures are in English and come in a PDF format, so they're easily viewable.

#10 The Open University

The UK's Open University offers a number of free technology courses at the introductory, intermediate and advanced level. Courses take anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks to complete and include comprehensive text-based materials.
