Certification Requirements for Accountants in Tennessee

If you plan to file reports with the Securities and Exchange Commission as an accountant, you are required by law to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). To become a CPA in Tennessee, you must obtain certification from the Tennessee State Board of Accountancy. According to the board, you must complete 150 semester hours of college classes, with at least 24 hours of business and 24 hours of accounting coursework, as well as earn a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
