Career Information for Financial Managers in Maryland

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), a bachelor's or master's degree in finance or business administration is a common requirement for financial managers, and Baltimore schools offer various programs within these areas of study. Bachelor's degree programs in finance typically include a large selection of general business and finance courses, as well as possible internship opportunities. In addition to being more specialized, master's degree programs in the area may be offered part-time, and they're usually designed for those with work experience or undergraduate coursework in finance or business.

In May 2011, the BLS estimated that there were around 10,500 financial managers employed in Maryland, including almost 5,100 in the Baltimore-Towson, MD, area. Although the area had one of the highest employment levels for financial managers in the state, its mean annual wage of around $107,000 was below the national estimate of roughly $120,000 and the state estimate of about $111,000.
