As either type of yoga instructor, you could teach students how to maintain the proper breathing techniques and postures.

Typically, yoga instructors specialize in a particular style of yoga, such as Vinyasa, Ashtanga and Bikram. You can also decide to teach age-appropriate yoga techniques and asanas to children or stress management and alignment techniques to pregnant women.

Salary

Most yoga instructors earned between $12.63 and $50.08 per hour, according to December 2013 figures on Payscale.com. Those with less than a year of experience earned $10.00 to $20.75 per hour, while those with 5-9 years of experience earned between $14.76 and $49.66 hourly. Also, the top-paying states were California, Florida and Washington.

You will need experience taking yoga to become an instructor, according to the BLS. If you're a student, some teachers may allow you to assist their sessions. You may also enroll in training programs at yoga studios, yoga schools or healthcare centers.

The Yoga Alliance offers 200-hour and 500-hour yoga teacher training programs that include topics in proper technique, instructional methods, philosophy and anatomy. A teaching practicum is also required. If you complete these training requirements, you can become a Registered Yoga Teacher.
