In New York State, licensing of electricians is regulated at the local level. There are no overall state requirements. To obtain your special or master electrician's license for New York City, you need to have accumulated a minimum of 7.5 years of experience. You may acquire this experience by working as a journeyman electrician for 7.5 years.
