Georgia Nursing Licensure Requirements
If you want to work as a registered nurse (RN) or a licensed practical nurse (LPN), you'll need to acquire a state license. The Georgia Board of Nursing is in charge of the licensing process for RNs, while the Georgia Board of Examiners of Licensed Practical Nurses regulates practical nurse licensure. To become an LPN, you must graduate from an approved practical nursing program and pass the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) for practical nurses. If you want to become an RN, you must complete an approved nursing diploma, associate or bachelor's program and pass the NCLEX for registered nurses
Job Outlook and Salary Information
In May 2011, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) found that there were 65,240 RNs employed in Georgia with average annual earnings of around $62,000. There were also 24,040 licensed practical nurses who generated an average salary of about $37,000. From 2010-2020, employment for licensed practical and vocational nurses should grow 22%, and employment for RNs should grow 26%, according to the BLS.
