What Kind of Program Is It?

The online RN-to-Master of Science in Nursing option allows students to earn both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Nursing in less time than earning each degree individually. The accelerated program offers students the opportunity to study advanced nursing theory and science, leader and management skills for a dynamic health care environment, how to transition from the role of registered nurse to a leadership role, and ethical principles in decision making for the advanced nurse. Additionally, students may learn about how to handle culturally diverse populations, effective patient communication, health and wellness assessment and strategy, and principles of epidemiology. The program also offers coursework in research statistical methods, inquiry and evidence-based practice, and the use of research to identify and implement innovation to clinical practice. A clinical practicum is also required. The RN-to-MSN option is subject to eligibility requirements.

What Are the Prerequisites?

If you would like to apply to the RN-to-Master of Science in Nursing option, you should be a nurse who is interested in pursuing more advanced leadership or administrative roles in nursing. Applicants to Kaplan University's programs should have a high school diploma or GED and be a citizen or permanent resident of the U.S. Since the program is offered online, applicants should have access to a computer.
