The University of Phoenix® online Associate of Arts with a concentration in Health Care Administration/Medical Records program provides you with the opportunity to take introductory courses focusing on patient records management, medical claims processing, and medical billing. Area of concentration courses address medical terminology, health information management, medical coding systems, federal regulations, patient billing, and current medical data software. You will also have the opportunity to receive a diverse liberal arts education by taking required courses in mathematics, social sciences, communications, physical sciences, and humanities. It should be noted that this program does not prepare students for medical billing or any other type of health care certification.
Applicants to University of Phoenix® programs should have a high school diploma or GED. You should have some experience or interest in working in a health care office environment. Familiarity with medical office procedures and clerical responsibilities can be helpful, but is not required.
The Associate of Arts with a concentration in Health Care Administration/Medical Records program at University of Phoenix requires the completion of 60 credits. A total of 18 credits are taken in the area of concentration. Courses are taken in complementary pairs or 'blocks' and are nine weeks in duration. Students with 24 or more transfer credits follow the Track A schedule, while those with less than 24 credits follow the First-Year Sequence, or Track B.

Completion of the Associate of Arts with a concentration in Health Care Administration/Medical Records program at University of Phoenix could qualify you to begin working as a records manager or claims manager for a hospital, clinic, or private physician's office. Some employers might require a 4-year degree to assume a management position. You could choose to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Health Administration or a Bachelor of Science in Health Administration with a concentration in Health Information Systems.
